New Era Begins at WCTV

Over the past few years change has been constant at Wareham Community Television. Over 1200 Wareham residents responded to a recent WCTV mail-in survey, and as a result, several exciting new shows have been added to the daily programming on Comcast Channel 9 & 97 and Verizon Channel 30 & 28.

"We now have the ability to download programs produced by public access stations across the country and play them locally", said Warren Randolph, WCTV’s newly appointed Traffic Coordinator. "We've added 17 new shows ranging from 'Green Revolution' to 'Chatting with History' to 'Older and Loving It'. We now have new programs for everyone" he continued.

WCTV has made it clear they are not abandoning local programs, "Not at all", reported Steve Ruiz, who has added Program Coordinator to his job title, "in fact, we are busier than we've ever been with Wareham-based productions". New programs by WCTV members include "Phantom P.I.", about ghost hunting, the news show "In the Soup", and "Constitution Talk" which explores written and oral Constitutional values." Other summertime shows include the "Summer of Love" music series, "On Stage with Mantis" and the Gatemen home games.

When asked about the new line-up, Jay Heard, WCTV Executive Director, said "It's all about providing more choices to our subscribers and to demonstrate to our members that they, too, can produce their own programming at WCTV". Recognizing that some change is good and some is not, the Board of Director's renewed Mr. Heard's contract as Executive Director by a unanimous vote of board members present at a recent meeting. According to John White, WCTV President, "Jay has done a remarkable job and as we and the Town approach contract renewals with Comcast and Verizon, the board is in consensus that Jay will continue to be an asset for WCTV, the community and for our members. We are very pleased that he has agreed to stay with us."

Mr. Heard has over 35 years of experience in broadcast journalism as a television cameraman, producer and director. In addition, he had owned and operated one of New England’s largest television production studios and has served as a television consultant to Fortune 500 companies and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

WCTV is seeking input from the community to further improve its programming line-up. Send your TV program ideas and recommendations to Jay@warehamtv.org
